Independence and conflicts of interest
Version 1.0 · July 2026
Horizon is an independent advisory firm. We sell no software, hold no reseller or referral relationship with any vendor, and take no commission on the platforms our clients select or run. Our only revenue is the fee our client pays us. This note sets out how we keep it that way, because a firm that advises on credit-risk systems and selection has to be able to show its independence, not just assert it.
Vendor neutrality
We are not tied to any credit-risk or trading-risk platform. Where we run or support a system selection, we score vendors against the client’s own signed-off, weighted requirements, using scripted demonstrations and a five-year total-cost-of-ownership view. We recommend the platform the evidence supports (including the incumbent), and we say so plainly when no change is justified. Our founders have delivered on Beacon, Murex, Openlink Endur, Numerix and CubeLogic among others; that range is what lets us stay platform-agnostic rather than defend a single product.
No product behind the advice
We do not resell, white-label or take a margin on any third-party product or service. We accept no payment, hospitality or benefit from a vendor in connection with a client engagement. Where a member of the team has a prior relationship with a vendor under consideration, we disclose it to the client before the selection begins.
Conflicts we manage
Before we accept an engagement, we check for conflicts across current and recent clients. We will decline work, or ring-fence teams and information, where a conflict cannot be managed cleanly. We do not act for two parties on opposite sides of the same selection or dispute. If a conflict emerges once work is under way, we raise it with the client immediately and agree how to handle it.
Assurance work
Where we provide independent assurance (of a model, an implementation, or an agentic credit system), we do not also build or sell the thing we are assessing. A party cannot grade its own homework, and an assessor with a stake in the result is not an assessor. That separation is the whole point of the service.
